The Northumberland Arms is just a few moments walk along the road from Riverside Cottage (pictured left and right). Boasting one of the top chefs in the North East they offer superb food and a very stylish space to relax. Take the dog along for your meal in the bar or book in the restaurant for a more intimate meal.

We particularly recommend the sunday lunch which is the best in the region! There's also a riverside beer garden to enjoy in the Summer months if you just fancy a drink with a view.

The Running Fox Cafe and Artisan Bakery is we believe the best cafe in Northumberland and its right on the doorstep of the Cottage, on the opposite side of the river. "The Fox" is amazingly popular and for good reason! Grab a fantastic hearty breakfast, lunch or one of the best (and biggest!) Afternoon Tea's that you'll ever experience (pictured right).

It's always worth booking if you get the chance to avoid disappointment. Although if they're full it's the perfect excuse to take away some sweet treats back to the Cottage!

Prepare for something a little different! The Treehouse Restaurant in Alnwick is part of The Alnwick Garden (although you don't need an admission ticket to dine here). As the name would suggest the restaurant is in a treehouse, but not just any treehouse... the largest in the world!

It's a magical experience with the living trees growing through the dining room and the wonderful open fires and twinkly lights. The food is high end with a focus on local produce so you'll want to book here for a special occasion. 

Located in the next Village to Felton is the old family favourite The Cook and Barker Inn (pictured left). We've been dining here for over 25 years and the Inn still retains all its character and traditional values.

Usually there is a great value lunch offer on weekdays and the restaurant in the evening offers a full a la carte menu. We particularly recommend the fish and seafood here if that's your thing.

Alnmouth is our favourite beach to visit in Northumberland (although we are extremely spoiled for choice!). We've chosen to highlight The Red Lion not only because they are super dog friendly, but also because of that beer garden (pictured right). The views over the estuary on a nice day simply cannot be beaten. The food is hearty and fresh from lunch to dinner.

We particularly enjoy a walk on the beach with the dog in Autumn/Winter followed by a pint and bite to eat in front of a roaring fire, perfection!

If you are staying at the Cottage with your family or if you just love a burger then The Dirty Bottles in Alnwick (pictured above) is a must! Bring your appetite with you as not only is it great value but the portions are huge.

We always go for the create your own burger menu which is fantastic and a real gut buster, double up if you dare! You can enjoy meats from the smokehouse - they're all good and trust me we've tried them all over the years. Having said that the sunday lunch is also one of the best around. If you're visiting The Alnwick Garden or Alnwick Castle make sure you eat here.
